Since your health insurance plan likely operates on a calendar year basis, October 1 kicked off the enrollment period for selecting your 2025 plan coverage. While inflation is easing, health insurance premiums have been increasing at a much faster rate. Here’s how to get the most cost-effective coverage for your family.
According to The Kaiser Family Foundation (KFF), the average family health insurance premiums rose 7% last year to a record $25,572. Meanwhile, the average plan deductible rose to a record $2,500 for small plans. For 2025, premiums are projected to rise another 5-10% on average. Your actual premium increase could vary significantly based upon your age, plan utilization, and state of residence, however. And remember, your total health care costs include not only your premiums, but also your out-of-pocket expenses including deductibles, co-pays, and prescription drug costs.
